Involve Accessible Transport Service
01 Apr 2026
Simon*, who is a wheelchair user, was referred to the Involve Community Transport Service by their GP after experiencing ongoing challenges with transport to medical appointments. Before his referral, Simon relied on G4S for medical appointments, but the long waiting times often made his experience difficult. For any non-medical travel, he was left to make his own arrangements which was not always easy due to his mobility needs.
When the referral was made, Tracey from the Involve team contacted Simon promptly to explain the service, outline the procedures, and ensure he understood the costs involved. This clear communication helped Simon feel prepared and supported ahead of his journey.
Simon used the Involve wheelchair-accessible electric vehicle (EV) for the first time for an appointment at the wheelchair services unit in Gillingham. As an electric wheelchair user, he was able to independently drive up the ramp, and he described the journey as comfortable and well-suited to his mobility needs. The driver played an important part in making the experience positive, as he was friendly, chatty and attentive, ensuring Simon was safely secured in the vehicle and offering helpful guidance as he navigated the ramp.
The support provided by the Involve Volunteer Transport Service made a significant difference to Simon. Without it, he believes he might not have been able to attend this appointment at all, as wheelchair accessible taxis are often difficult to find and not always available locally. Having access to a reliable that can safely and comfortably accommodate his wheelchair. He expressed his appreciation for the service and confirmed that he wouldn’t hesitate to use it again.
Simon thanked the team for their support, noting that the service had been invaluable in helping him maintain his independence and access essential healthcare.
