Independent Age – Advice Service

What we do

Helpline team

Our Helpline is a free and confidential service for older people and their families, carers and friends.

Our areas of expertise are:

  • money and benefits
  • care and support
  • housing options

If you have a question or need support, our friendly Helpline team is here to listen. If we can help right away, we will. And if you need advice on something a bit more complicated, we’ll arrange a free chat with one of our specialist advisers.

Examples of what we can help you with:

Our advisers can support you to:

  • explore whether you qualify for any financial support, like Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Attendance Allowance and other entitlements
  • apply for benefits or appeal a benefits decision
  • understand your rights as a carer, including your entitlement to carers’ benefits
  • look for grants you may be able to apply for
  • know your rights if you’re a tenant
  • think through your options if you need more support at home
  • make a complaint about social care services

We understand that each individual’s needs are unique, which is why the support we offer is personalised to you and your circumstances.

We can give you information and support using a translation service, if English is not your preferred language, and we also offer British Sign Language support.
